Driver Installation
Please complete the software drivers installation before installing the scanner.
  1. Insert the Driver Installation CD into your disk drive.
  2. Follow all on screen instructions.
If the Driver Installation Welcome screen does not appear after inserting the Driver Installation CD into your disk drive, do the following:
  1. Click Start and select Run.
  2. In the Run dialogue box, type DRIVE:\RUN where drive is your CD-ROM drive and click OK.
  

When you are presented with the option of whether to restart Windows after completing the software drivers installation, please choose Yes.
Hardware Installation
Refer to the following steps to connect your scanner:
  1. With the power to your PC on, connect the scanner's USB cable to the USB port of your PC.



  2. Connect the power adapter to the scanner and plug it into an appropriate power outlet.
Upon connecting the power adapter, the Windows® operating system would automatically detect your scanner and update your system configuration.
Just In Case
If the Add New Hardware Wizard appears upon installing the software drivers and connecting the power adapter, perform the following steps:
  1. Click the Next button.
  2. On the next screen select the recommended option and go into the Win98 directory of your installation CD.
  3. Click the OK button and on the next screen Windows will confirm that it has found the driver for your scanner.
  4. Click the Finish button to exit.
Windows XP Installation
Below are very important installation messages for the users of Windows XP.
Hardware Installation
Please complete the hardware installation before installing the drivers.
  1. With the power to your PC on, connect the scanner's USB cable to the USB port of your PC.
  2. Connect the power adapter to the scanner and plug it into an appropriate power outlet.
Upon connecting the power adapter, the Windows® operating system should automatically detect your scanner and update your system configuration.
Driver Installation
With the PC powered on and connected to your device, a Found New Hardware Wizard dialogue box appears. Follow the steps below to complete the driver installation:
  1. Insert the Driver Installation CD into your disk drive.
  2. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) in the dialogue box and click Next to continue.
  3. The following dialogue box appears. Select Include this location in the search and then type DRIVE:\WINXP\ (for example e:\winxp\) in the text box, where drive stands for the drive letter containing the Driver Installation CD.
  4. Click Next, the installation will then begin automatically.
  5. Click Finish to exit.
When you need to reinstall your scanner, please repeat steps 1 to 3.
Bundled Software Installation
Note: Keep your scanner connected to the PC during the installation procedure!

To continue installing other bundled software, please open your CD-ROM drive and then close it to launch the autorun function of the Driver Installation CD.
  1. When you are presented with the setup dialogue box, please click OK to continue.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation.
Note: Important Change to Direct Scan functions: Please be aware that this device still supports Direct Scan functions (hardware one-click operation) in Windows XP operating systems, but unlike previous operating systems (Windows 98/Me/2000), the Direct Scan icon will not be shown on the Windows taskbar.

Transparency Adapter Instructions
Scanner Preparation
  1. Before scanning your transparencies, pull out the long black tab from the scanner cover and then place the scan slide template (see illustration A) onto the scanner window glass, making sure that the arrows match in the lower left hand corner.
  2. Plug the power cord into the back of your scanner (see illustration B).
Preparing Slides for Scanning
  1. Place up to 3 slides face down on the scan slide template (see illustration C).
  2. Lower the scanner cover.
Preparing Film for Scanning
  1. Slide the film to be scanned face down into the film template (see illustration D).
  2. Place the film template onto the scan slide template, making sure that the arrows match the bottom left hand and the calibration window remains uncovered.
  3. Lower the scanner cover.
Scanning (Using TWAIN Dialogue Box)
Note: During the scanning process you will be offered the option of a pre-scan, select Yes; this will calibrate the scanner.

  1. When scanning your slide or film, choose the appropriate source (e.g. Negative) from the Scan Source menu and a dialog box will appear.
    1. The Negative dialogue box allows you to set the brand of negative film you are scanning (i.e. Kodak, Fuji, Konica), the ASA/ISO (i.e. 100, 200, 400) and the outlet where you had your film developed (i.e. Kodak outlet, Fuji outlet, Konica outlet).
    2. When the brand of the negative film you are scanning is not Kodak, Fuji, or Konica, use the Simple-inverted Setting (Other brand) instead. Afterwards use the an image editing program to enhance the scan.
  2. Select the scanning parameters (i.e. scan mode, resolution, etc.). For the best quality image set the scan resolution to at least 1200 dpi.
  3. Execute a pre-scan by pressing the Preview button.
  4. If necessary adjust your settings.
  5. Execute a final scan by pressing the Scan button.
